Which other Benzes would Oppo like to see with their basic original design but brought up to today’s specs? And more, why do you (realistically) think it would sell? The G survived this long because it has a market, we must remember that in our imaginative exercise.
For me it would be the W124, but while the G-Wagen caters to a more eccentric and rich crowd, this would be sold in the markets where it is still currently being used as taxis and daily drivers. We keep the square shape, like the G, and add the necessary modern amenities, safety structures and a modern diesel engine.

Mercedes 600. Because every power-crazed dictator should still be able to buy one new.

Yup. W124 with a 270hp I6 and modern auto getting over 30mpg. Priced at ~40k to compete directly against the ES.

190E “Evo II”; the classiest homologation special ever.

You mean every country in Europe, as well as hoards of less developed countries? I live in Norway, and I saw a W124 taxi just a few weeks ago. They’re not common as taxis, but they exists. As daily drivers they’re very much around.
My pick would also be from that era. They could continue to develop the 190E into a serious M3 challenger and motorsport contender, with help from AMG. That never happened with the later C-class, as those are very rare in motorsport.

4th-gen SL class. Hnnnng.
Why would it sell? It wouldn’t. I probably couldn’t afford it. But I’d love that it exists.

It would be the Evo XX by now though. Imagine the wing on that one!

Also, how are those 2 days of driving on a rock going?

They should still make the W123 with updates to lighten them, only minor changes. No need to update MB tex. I love mine, they did make them for a long time comparatively, the turbo came later but it was the same car since 76’ I think. They made like 2.7 million of them. I have an 83, the last year with no computer, but has a turbo. Best year if you ask me.

My merc mechanic says they are a nightmare for maintenance now though. If they could fix that with an update, sure.

With a even bigger rear spoiler.

I was thinking about the places where the W124 outnumber the newer models, places like Morocco.

With hydraulic everything.

That would also serve really well the markets where the W123 still has active duties.
